Body Conversations

February 24, 2026 By admin 1 Comment

I talk to myself a lot. It used to just be verbal processing or observational stuff (“Oh my god Becky look at her butt! It is so big…” don’t know why that came to mind but here we are).

Now I also talk to my body.

My legs most frequently. My brain quite a bit too. Lately my nervous system has needed some direct supervision.

You might think this is all internal. You would be wrong.

I walk around talking to my body like I’m carrying toddlers with me.

“Hey, come on. We’re going this way.”
“You can do it — see? Yay! Good job!”
“Whoa now. Stop that. We are not playing that game today. Thank you.”

I make my PT laugh, but she joins in too. “Yeah! You got this, legs! Go go go!”

It’s honestly really helpful.

There’s science behind verbalizing things that someone smarter than me could explain. All I know is it works. When I can get all of me on the same page, life is easier for all of us.

A few months ago I noticed I was referring to my body in sections instead of as a whole. “My legs.” “My brain.” “My nervous system.” Like we were coworkers who barely tolerate each other.

So I’ve been trying to get everyone working together.

After all, we’re a team with the same goal: get through the day as best we can.

No sense in letting everyone run their own show all at once. I’m not the Las Vegas strip.

“So I’ve been trying to get everyone working together.

    Love this.

I remember when I used to talk smack about my brain, and be like “ugh my brain is running the show rather than my heart” — and my friend was like, “you do realize they’re both… you… right? They’re both equally you.”

So now I’m nice to my brain, too.
